Bachelor’s Degree

What are your plans having graduated from high school? For many graduates it is to study for a degree, and among the most popular are the various bachelor’s degrees. A bachelor’s degree is usually a four-year study program and leads to a qualification that opens the door to many excellent career opportunities.

The traditional method of studying for a bachelor’s degree is to enrol at a university and indulge in on-campus teaching. Increasingly popular, however, are online study programs which can be more convenient for many students.

What can you expect to study should you decide to take a bachelor’s degree? Let’s look at this in more detail.

What are Credits?

While there are some bachelor’s degrees that do not conform to this rule, in general one is a four-year course that requires the student to be awarded 120 credits. Credits are earned y studying different courses.

A bachelor’s degree will not focus absolutely on the subject to major in. This will make up around 30 to 36 credits. The rest will be on more general learning. The aim of a bachelor’s degree is to give the student an all-round, well-grounded education in the subjects and skills that will help them in their careers and lives.

For example, English and humanities will be part of the course, and there will be a course in such as critical thinking and analysis. A graduate who emerges from university with a bachelor’s degree will be attractive to employers.

It should be noted that there has been an increase in the number of entry-level roles that now require at least a bachelor's degree. It’s worth checking the jobs you are considering before embarking on your degree course.

Three Types of Bachelor’s Degree

Before you decide which degree to study we need to explain the three different types, and why it is important to choose the best one for your needs. Here are the three types of bachelor’s degrees:

-        Bachelor of Arts (BA) provides a broad and diverse education and is the least focused on the major subject. Among the most popular BAs in English, Art, and Music.

-        Bachelor of Science (BS) concentrates more on the major subject, which can include computer science, biology, and many areas of business studies.

-        Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is attractive to dancers, singers, artists, and the overall creative world.

If you are not decided on your future career we suggest a BA as the way forward. If you are, then the BS is the better decision. The BFA is more specialist but also worth looking at if you are decided upon a career in the art world.

Conclusion

A bachelor's degree is often the first step into higher education, and while many students prefer the traditional campus-based experience, there are plenty who choose the online study path for its convenience. We recommend you investigate both avenues and find the one that is right for you, and then research the various bachelor’s degrees on offer and begin your path to a better career.
